These pages were initially created to transfer photos from traditional scrapbooks to the internet in order to both preserve and make the pictures and history available to family and friends. It has become more extensive than I intended. However, I see it as a way to save the details before they slip away.

John King - 1941 to 12/09/22
Chris and I were very saddened to learn that John King passed away today. His Granddaughter Becky wrote "I am completely heart broken at the moment. My grandfather John King was an amazing man, who has loved his family with every ounce of his being! He passed away today peacefully in his sleep, which is all I could have asked for. I love you grandpa! More than you could ever know. I’ll never forget coming to see you when I was little, or having summers with you during my youth. Rest in heavenly peace, forever!"
Martin - John dated my Sister Peggy during High School and they later married in 1983. I was a tag-along when Peggy received her driver's license and we delivered the Odessa American newspaper for my Dad. When Peggy and John began dating, I was their tag-along bumming rides to school and band rehearsals. John was a mentor to me in the areas of music and radios. When my best friend Joe Burgess' family was preparing to move from Alpine to Silver City, New Mexico, it was John that recommended we both get ham radio licenses. We passed the course for the Ham Novice license. John found me a WW II surplus receiver and then helped me build my transmitter. He also helped erect a pole antenna on top of my Mom's "rock collection" house (those who knew her will understand this description). Then John helped build a "ham "shack" for me in what was the "Rock House's" front porch (left). Interestingly, the "Rock House" was where my parents lived when Dad was stationed at the Marfa Army Air Field (the same property they bought when they moved back to Alpine in 1946). Joe Burgess and I did connect for that period and John helped me install a serious radio tower behind Dad's office and I communicated with folks all over the place.
John and his Dad, Buddy King assisted Carl Williams in establishing the Brewster County Communications system and subsequently managed it, providing dispatching jobs to Carol and I while we were going to college. I didn't see John after I graduated and he went to Dallas until he and Peggy reconnected in June of 1983. The last time I visited with John was at the Alpine reunion in 2019 (left).
