November 2, 1084 Chris flew to England to be with her family prior to beginning her job at DHS. She returned November 16, 1984.
On way to take Chris to airport to fly to England, she had an insufficient funds notice from Martin in her mail box. Argh! $7 for pic frames bounced - embarrassing
Chris flew to UK & Martin drove to Alpine.

1/16/84 Chris 7:30am flight from London
Ken called Martin and said he had wrecked Chris' pickup and asked that I tell her when I picked her up at the airport.
Martin bought roses and went to the airport, but Chris didn’t get off plane - asked crew to double check, but no Chris. M went to counter and was told Chris missed the NY connection and has been given a room in NY and will fly to Austin tomorrow. Went home, Chris called, Martin said "How’s New York?"
Chris says she had called and left message on my answering machine to say she changed flights and was now at the Austin airport. M's answering machine didn’t save the message (as it had not done in the past). M took roses out of the fridge and picked Chris up at the airport. Told her about Ken wrecking her truck.

11/23/84 Chris' Honda Prelude replaced her wrecked pickup. Martin as the cosigner on her Berstrom loan.

By buying 12 blank videotapes Martin received a Scotch coupon for buy one get one free flight on Republic Airlines. The flight had to be used by Dec 15, 1984. So Chris & Martin found the furthermost they could go over a weekend was Washington D.C.

Mom with Ned Kelly and BBC production team on the Hess Ranch for film segment of the BBC production "Making of the Continents" Mom went to England (on Chris & Martin's honeymoon - Nov 3 to Nov 16, 1985) and traveled to Bristol (Nov 7) where she watched some of the editing and was then shown the entire movie). Mom was credited for her part in accessing the Hess ranch for the BBC enabling that segment.

Peg then travelled to Cambridge University where she donated many of her Big Bend fossils and signed the same book as Henry VIII who donated the original land for the university in 1546.

Dad and Martin June 26, 1986 made a trip taking potential postcard pictures in Alpine area. It was the last trip they made together before Chris and Martin took Dad to El Paso for heart surgery just before Thanksgiving 1986. Dad passed away January 1, 1987.

In 1986 prior to Thanksgiving, Martin & Chris took Ollie to El Paso to have surgery to repair a hole in his heart that was causing serious health problems. The surgery after Thanksgiving was successful, however Ollie experienced a stroke the next day at which time he lost his ability to speak. In a horrendous situation a "cooling bed" that was being used to stabilize his temperature, malfunctioned. Ollie received 3rd degree burns and was unable to let the nursing staff know. Martin stayed with Ollie all the time, Chris came and stayed as often as she could and Peggy & John and other family members and friends from Alpine visited. Ollie passed away the morning of New Years Day, January 1, 1987. He would have turned 70 in April. more photos
